My Story:

After more than 20 years working as a corporate and commercial partner in two City law firms, I stepped into the role of General Counsel at the Nano Foundation – an experience that opened my eyes to the realities, challenges and pace of life inside a fast-moving, high-growth business.

It was this insight that led me to form Mercurae: a legal services model designed for businesses rather than the lawyers. To take the best of in-house counsel and law firms, and to bring that together to fill the gap left by each of those models. Hence our strapline – Mercurae – legal built right into your business.

In order to deliver on the above, you have to opt for an efficiency model. You need to remove friction. I’ve always had a particular interest in technology and how it can be used to deliver legal work more intelligently, efficiently and collaboratively. Technology, designed to help lawyers operate at their best, therefore sits at the heart of Mercurae.  

How I Help Clients:

For nearly three decades, I’ve worked side-by-side with clients to help them navigate the legal issues that matter most to their businesses. My approach has always been grounded in strong relationships, practical, commercial advice and genuine commitment to understanding how clients operate. In summary – we are trusted advisers.

I act for organisations of all sizes and across many sectors – from PLCs and financial services LLPs, to Fintech startups, software developers, property developers, sports governing bodies, NGOs and charities.  I also serve as Chairman of the Lawyers Cooperation, a network of European business law firms, helping Mercurae clients to access expert international legal advice when they need it.

I founded Mercurae in 2020 with a simple philosophy: integrated legal support creates daily value — and an integrated legal partner amplifies it.  Our model blends high-quality legal expertise, the depth and availability of a law firm, with the mindset of an in-house team – flexible, collaborative and powered by technology.  Today, Mercurae continues to evolve around that vision: delivering excellence, in the right way, at the right pace, and always with the client’s goals and values at the centre.

Outside Work:

A proud husband and dad of 3 super kids, all nearly fully grown, I have a little more time for hobbies such as playing the oboe, writing the occasional poem, and walking our lovely, if crazy, ball-obsessed flat-coated retriever. My fascination with physics and space is enduring (born in 1969 at the time of the moon landings), along with AI and how it can help us achieve programming skills which would otherwise be out of reach, and the state of our Nation and how we might improve it for those who choose to live here.
